Labradorite
Spirit of the Northern Light
Labradorite reflects the colour of the mystical northern light, known as labradorensence, and has been used for thousands of years. One legend tells the story of a brave Inuit warrior who was sent to find the northern lights (aurora borealis) again as it had disappeared. Years of searching went by and the warrior still had not found it. He was despairing when he saw a flicker in the distance. When he went to look, the northern lights were trapped inside the stone. He quickly broke the stone with his spear to free the northern lights, but a portion of the light remained and this is now known as labradorite.
Labradorite honors Arianrhod, the Welsh Goddess of the Moon and Stars. Her home is the Aurora Borealis, the place where souls go when their body dies and waits to be born once again. She is also a goddess of prophecy and dream.
It is, in every sense, a Stone of Magic, a crystal of shamans, diviners, healers, and all who travel and embrace the universe seeking knowledge and guidance. Labradorite is a strong stone of protection and spirit. It gives your strength by protecting you from negative influences from your surroundings, calms your mind and brings you luck.
It can protect you from negative influences by absorbing positive energy and removing negative energy that does not belong near you. When these negative influences are removed you will feel strengthened and your fears will be alleviated. This is why some people see labradorite as a stone that grants willpower and self-confidence.
Labradorite also calms your mind and will bring balance to your life. It energizes your imagination, bringing in new ideas and insights. In some people it will bring out their inner child, granting them a renewed sense of wonder and happiness.
Another meaning of labradorite is that as a stone of luck. It can pull good fortune in your direction if you wear it directly on your skin.
